In 1979, after the death of Marion Merrill, the owner of The Merrill Company Publishers, my mother, Jean Woodcock, purchased The Merrill Company Publishers, their archival stock and all the artwork from 1945 on. All the artwork, and almost all the stock, prior to 1945 was destroyed. It's a fascinating story but not one that I will go into here. Before selling anything, I set aside the two finest copies of every book that they published, starting with the very first book from 1934 and all the way through to 1965 when the last book was published - "Little Miss Christmas & Holly-Belle". One was for my mother and the other was to go to me upon her death. On May 4th, my mother passed away and per her wishes I am selling her copy from the two I set aside. These will be offered for sale slowly and will encompass not only the paper dolls books, but every coloring, punch-out and story book. This is your opportunity to own a piece of publishing history and a book that never made it onto the store shelves. With very few exceptions, these books are in stunning condition with only the most minor of defects. Once you own one these, you'll never be looking for a copy in better condition. Each book will come with its own "Certificate of Authenticity" signed by me that states the title, year and its "edition". Every book is #2 of 2. SUBMARINE read more
