Grandpa and Grandma may remember this type of inkwell. It was in use in the early to mid-1900's - the standard school desk inkwell that fit into a hole in the top of the wood desk. The lip of the inkwell kept it from falling through and the top was almost flush with the desktop. I have seen it used in a desk with cast iron legs and a wood top, with a shelf underneath to hold books and papers. The only identifying mark is a number 5 on the bottom of the half-circle glass insert. The metal attracts a magnet and is quite heavy. It is 1 1/2" from the bottom to the top of the lid and the sides are slightly tapered. The diameter of the very top of the inkwell is approximately 1 7/8". The metal top of the inkwell is scratched ( by a bored student?) but otherwise in fine condition.... the glass insert has no chips or cracks. Please ask questions before bidding.
