You are looking at a Metallic Plane Company jack plane , with corrugated bottom. This plane (as described using Roger Smith's published study of Bailey-Stanley Iron Plane Types) was manufactured between 1876 and 1880 and is from my personal collection. The plane is considered to be in fair condition (evaluated using the Standard Condition Classification System). Additional classification information can be found on my website /woodplanes . Key characteristics found on this plane, associated with the type include: Corrugated bottom with adjustable throat Metallic Plane Co. - Auburn N.Y. - Patented stamped on the side Spoke-wheel mechanism to raise and lower the iron with Metallic's patented longitudinal screw adjustment All-metal mushroom-shaped front knob The company's advertisement stated that "Any cutters can be used" and this plane is equipped with a Stanley 'Q' trademark iron. The sole is 15 inches long and 2½ inches wide. The rear tote is a replacement and has a crack across the top (see picture), as well as a non-standard handle screw.
