Hi Collectors. Up for Auction is a nice starter collection set of Meteorite Coins/Medallions including a neat Face on Mars Legal Tender coin. These are extras that I have set aside in a drawer waiting for a rainy day to sell so I can purchase something else that I would like to add to my meteorite collection cabinets. Starting from left to right in the group photo are all the items that are up for auction including the easels! -------First up is the Gorgeous Nantan Meteorite Coin Commemorating the historic fall of 1516 in Guangxi Prov., China of the Nandan (now called Nantan) Meteorite. Only 2500 were ever made. This was issued in 2006 and Minted by the MG Bank of the Republic of Palau and is of Legal Tender. It is composed of .925 Silver with a weight of 25 grams and has a diameter of 38.61 mm. This coin also has an Authentic piece of the actual meteorite that fell in 1516 on the coin! Very Beautiful piece of work. Included is the original COA (certificate of authenticity) and the coin is Proof Uncirculated and protected in a air-tight coin case. -------Next is a "Face on Mars" Coin! This is the hard to find "Rough Face" and is Proof Uncirculated! In perfect condition! The "Rough Face" is not so easy to find anymore in Proof Uncirculated. It is ACTUAL LEGAL TENDER with a face value on the back of the coin that says $50 1996 Republic of Liberia. It is made of Cupro-Nickel and comes in an air-tight coin case and will have a copy of Certificate of Authenticity! This coin commemorates the discovery of a feature found on the planet Mars. Please read below: May 24, 2001 -- Twenty five years ago something funny happened around Mars. NASA's Viking 1 spacecraft was circling the planet, snapping photos of possible landing sites for its sister ship Viking 2, when it spotted the shadowy likeness of a human face. An enormous head nearly two miles from end to end seemed to be staring back at the cameras from a region of the Red Planet called Cydonia. -------Next is a limited edition coin/medallion commemorating the Campo del Cielo meteorite. Only 1000 coins/medallions of these were made. Included is an actual real piece of the Campo del Cielo meteorite embedded in the crater on the face of the coin/medallion! These coins/medallions are numbered 0001 - 1000. This coin is number 0099. Sources state that no more of these will ever be made. The coin/medallion is made from a Zinc alloy base. Each coin/medallion measures 2 inches in diameter (50mm), 4.5 mm thick and was produced in an antique gold finish. The back of the coin/medallion provides historical information on the Campo del Cielo meteorite and is sequentially numbered. Very beautifully done and looks awesome in any collection! -------Last up is a favorite of mine. This is another limited edition coin/medallion commemorating the Northwest Africa 869 (NWA 869) meteorite. Only 1000 coins were minted. And like the Campo coin above sources state no more of these will ever be made! Included is a real piece of the NWA 869 meteorite embedded in the crater on the face of the coin/medallion!. These coins are numbered 0001 - 1000 and the number on this coin is 0099, having the exact same number as the Campo coin/medallion above! This coin/medallion is made from a Zinc alloy base and measures 2 inches in diameter (50mm), 4.5 mm thick and was produced in an antique gold finish. The back of the coin/medallion provides historical information about NWA 869 meteorite and is sequentially numbered. Again very beautifully done and looks awesome in any collection! So t you have it.
