This is a beautiful specimen of the stony meteorite from Burkina Faso named Gao. The Gao meteorite fell on March 5, 1960, several thousand small stones rained down in the village of Leo. It is a stone, chondrite H5.
Pieces are still being found t, I now have a supplier in the town so these pieces are newly found. This piece is a nice individual and has beautiful black fusion crust. It is flight-oriented, showing that it held stable flight on entry and was shaped by the forced of entry to show orientation. It has very nice complet lip around the back side, and small flow lines on the leading edge. It weighs 13.890 grams. This specimen shows perfect orientation. What is so amazing about this one is the perfectly formed lipping on the backside of the stone. This is very rare. It is cone-shaped, with some flow lines and a complete rollover rim around the backside. It measures 30 mm by 25 mm 10 mm. This piece is unique, and should sell for more than $150.00 This piece is one of a kind, I have bought and sold at least 50 kilograms of Gao, and this is by far one of the best pieces I have ever seen. If you collect oriented meteorites, then it doesnt matter how many Gao stones you own, this one needs to be in your collection! T can be only one lucky winner, so bid like you really want it.
