We are offering a nice sample of a rare achondrite, namely a polymict eucrite . The material represents a meteoritic breccia, consisting of mineral and lithic clasts, embedded in fine-grained clastic matrix.

Polymict eucrite

Polymict eucrites belong to the group of HED achondrites ( Howardites, E ucrites, D iogenites), which are thought to originate from the asteroid Vesta. This planetary body has undergone extensive melting early in its history about 4.6 billion years ago, which led to the formation of basaltic melts. The eucrites are mainly composed of those crystallized melts.
