In 1929, Nininger examined it and was able to trace its origin to the village of Tlacotepec in the State of Puebla, Mexico. He estimated the total weight at 71 kg , broken in two masses, and he managed to obtain the largest one, a 36.6kg mass (that he promptly sliced and distributed). Nininger classified it as an unusual coarse octahedrite, while Buchwald re-classified it as a nickel-rich ataxite of group IVB.
