You are looking at a superb lidded ½ liter etched stoneware Stein with solid pewter trim and finial by Mettlach Villeroy Boch of Germany . It measures about 8 inches in height to the lid and 8 ½ inches to the finial, with diameters of about 4 inches at the base, 3 ½ inches at mid point and 3 ¼ inches at the opening. The width is about 5 ½ inches from the handle to the opposite side. It weighs about 2 ½ lbs. As shown in our photos, this is a German quality stoneware etched and pewter-trimmed Stein that depicts the storied town of Heidelberg at the confluence of the Neckar and Rhine rivers. The hinge mechanism, lid and hinge finial are trimmed in solid pewter. Also as shown, the bottom of the Stein is fully hall marked with the incised Mettlach VB Castle emblem and various incised numbers. This Stein is in excellent gently used pre-owned condition, with no cracks, abrasions, damage or repairs. The hinge of the lid functions flawlessly. This Stein is a beauty and fully worthy of the Mettlach Villeroy Boch cachet. Please also see my companion listings of other fine collectibles.
