Mettlach V&B Villeroy and Boch Stein You are bidding on a Mettlach Villeroy and Boch beer stein or krug. This particular stein appears to have been manufactured in 1904 from the foorm 2936 for The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, an American social club and fraternal organization founded in 1868, then called the Jolly Corks apparently. The stein has a clear Mettlach abbey mark as well as Ges Gesch, 2936, II, and 04, as well as some markings of unkown purpose 21, either 10 or 19, and a faint incision that looks like it might be a small, capital D. There is some green residue on the bottom, possibly left over from a mercury mark. The side of the stein is marked 1/2 L.This stein has a nice wavy blue design with a main scene on the front of the stein featuring an Elk's head framed by a wreath of flowers, a roman numerals clock, and a series of ribbons reading, "benevolent", "protective", "order"," elks", and two other words that were difficult to read either because of the font or perhaps they are in another language. The main scene has been accented with a light purple color and the clock's hands are pointing to the XI and XII respectively.
