You are bidding on beautiful handwoven Zapotec rug, created by members of the Ubaldo Bautista Family in Teotitlan del Valle, Mexico. The Bautista family of Zapotec weavers is headed by Ubaldo, his wife Adelina, and Ubaldo's brother Erasto. All three were born and raised in Teotitlan del Valle, Mexico, w as far back as anyone can remember, their ancestors have been weavers. At this time 15 family members are directly involved in the craft of weaving. Teotitlan del Valle, a lively, ancient village in the hills near Oaxaca city, has been a weaving center for centuries. The Zapotec Indians have been able to maintain much of their traditional culture due to the worldwide desire for their weavings. The wool used to weave the rugs is hand-spun from local sheep. All dyes used by the Bautista family are natural and derived from plants, insects and local minerals. Natural dyes are time-consuming and exacting to use, but they produce traditional colors of depth and beauty - worth the extra work to the weavers and the extra cost to collectors. Enjoy this precious work of art produced with love, passion and centuries of tradition. The Bautistas are very happy and honored to know that their beloved weavings grace the homes and lives of people far outside of their Teotitlan del Valle. This rug is entitled "Psicodelico Rojo" (Psychedelic Red) read more
