Mexican Bone Chess Set – HandCarved, Intricate Filigree Carving - Spectacular! This is one of the most detailed and labor-intensive sets I’ve offered – a hand carved filigree bone chess set from Mexico . I bought this many years ago in a rural town down there, not from the usual tourist vendors. Look at the detail in the pictures, and imagine the time and skill it took the craftsman to carve all 32 pieces to stand as a uniform set – incredible! The entire set comes in a 15-1/2” square hinged chessboard, with dense foam attached inside and storage beds shaped for secure storage of each piece. The surface of the board has some wear and scratches from travel and being handmade and somewhat primitive (see pictures for condition). The 32 pieces consist of 16 plain and 16 painted black. The King is 4-3/4” tall, and the pawns are 2”. They are carved from (usually cattle) bone as a single piece, and then each piece is mounted on a circular bone base. All of the pieces are in great condition, with the exception of two pawns which appear to have lost the pointed tips of their daggers (hardly noticeable, but I wanted to note that). This is a beautiful, classy set that you will be proud to display anywhere and people will ask about. The detail in the carving is truly spectacular! Sets like these easily sell for $500-$700!
