This beautiful kiln fused dichroic stained glass mezuzah case was handmade by the two of us, Lawrence and Audrey Goldsmith (LJG&AAG). The case is signed and dated on the back. It is slightly less than 5 3/8 inches high and approximately 1 3/8 inches wide at its widest points and can hold a parchment up to approximately 4 1/4 inches long. We designed and made this by carefully kiln fusing many pieces of stained glass under clear fusible glass in a multiple step process. We then slumped (melted the glass over a form that we constructed) at approximately 1400 degrees and annealed (slowly cooled) the mezuzah case for over 8 hours. We used many colors of transparent stained glass and some thin translucent opaque stained glass. Over this we kiln fused over 30 thin pieces of clear based dichroic stained glass. If one sees light through the mezuzah case, the dichroic glass will look more transparent as will any pieces that may slightly overlap the edge. When seen against an opaque surface the dichroic glass will appear more opaque. It also has the wonderful quality of looking differently as one views it from different angles. We have carefully embedded solid copper wire into it in the fusing process so it can be easily and safely hung with screws (included) or nails (copper tacks included). The wire is flexible enough to gently crimp read more
