Items often have evidence of wear associated with their age, and these minor aspects aren't always individually noted in our descriptions. Please contact us if you have a specific concern regarding this item. We want you to be delighted with your piece! We usually answer email questions within one day (weekends excluded), or we can be reached at Mon- Fri from 9am-5pm PST. Item Description: Up for auction is a large nearly square framed antique linen embroidered sampler. It looks like it is done with silk thread on an open weave linen. It is signed in needlework, "Ann Newill 1838". T is also a 6 line verse praising the benefits of religion, although it doesn't specify which one! We don't know w Ann lived or how old she was when she did this piece, but she was obviously quite skilled. The stitches are delicate and even. This sampler is full of trees, plants, birds, flowers and vines, as well as three lines of the alphabet and the above verse. The colors are mostly dark green and tan/gold, with highlights of light green, light blue and white. We are not sure of the age of the frame with glass, but it is a good vintage frame with rustic details in brown. On the back is a partial tag from Marshall Field & Company Picture Gallery. Condition Report: As pictured. This is in Very Good condition, with no major staining, just an overall tan colored yellowing. The frame is strong with some slight rubbing on the edges. The top and bottom left corners have a small separation. The backing is torn in some areas, so it could probably benefit from a fresh backing. Please see photos for additional details. Dimensions: Framed - 19" x 18 1/5" x 1". Visible Sampler - 16 7/8" x 16 3/8". Total Weight before packing - 3lbs & 12.4 oz. Note: We have recently come upon a group of these beautiful antique samplers, so please keep an eye on our listings, as we will be listing them all shortly. :: Please preview items carefully :: All sales are final. No refunds or exchanges; No exceptions. Thank you for shopping with Hughes Estate Sales, Inc.
