The late Michael Graves was not only a justifiably famous architect but produced iconic designs for Penneys, Target, Alessi, and more for home use. The Nanna teapot was designed for and produced by Glaskoch Leonardo in Germany between 1996 and 2000. I have never used it (I don't actually imagine anyone actually using it given its beauty, fragility, and rarity). Indeed, the parts have never been out of the two boxes they came in except for these photos. Even so, people who have actually used the Nanna teapot report that it works splendidly. For example, the infuser is cranked up out of the water after the desired strength of the tea is achieved. Because this was purchased by me for its qualities as sculpture rather than for practical use, I have never tested those workings. The teapot itself is hand-blown boro-silicate glass. As such, the minor irregularities characteristic of hand-crafted objects are sometimes present, though I detect none here. The stand is of clear acrylic on which a round metal plate is where the teapot rests. The acrylic base means heat is not transmitted to the surface below should you use the teapot. The Nanna teapot is in the collection of the Indianapolis Museum of Art, among other design collections, and one may be confidant the IMA nor any of the others ever brewed tea in it.
