The Tankard Series was made by Ceramarte Ltda. for The Walt Disney Company. Ceramarte was founded in Rio Negrinho, Santa Catarina, Brazil by Klaus and Maria Schumacher who were post-WWII German emigrants. Klaus had ceramic experience to make steins. Maria had the painting, modeling and designing experience. The company began in 1956 and expanded outside of Brazil in 1970. Now the company can claim to be the worldâe(tm)s largest producer of ceramic and artistic products. Although a high ratio of sales are to collectors, Ceramarte makes many other ceramic items. The Ceramarteâe(tm)s steins are often produced for other businesses. So, not many steins are listed on their web site. Their biggest customers who rely on the artistry of Ceramarte steins are: Miller High Life, Olympia Brewing, Stroh Brewery, Hamms, Coors, Anheuser Busch, Disney and even Avon. With contracts like these, it's no wonder Ceramarte is the highest ranking in artistic ceramic work. Also, Kossinger, a German distributor and importer also use Ceramarte and usually put "C-KO" or Kossinger Edition under the capacity mark on their steins. The Disney Character Tankard Series was introduced in 1992 with Donald Duck, followed by Mickey Mouse in 1993 and Goofy in 1994.
