RARE BOOKS AND MANUSCRIPTS. A Rare mid-eighteenth century New England ledger from Ashford, Connecticut innkeeper, James Abbott. 170 pages, written in a neat hand, covering the years 1758-1759. Tall folio, original vellum-covered boards; covers quite bowed; internally bright and clean. The entries cover food and drink tabs for numerous individuals with familiar old New England names, including that of Palatiah Webster, one of the most important economic writers of the early Republic. Among his works: Dissertation of the Political Union and Constitution of the Thirteen United States of North America (1783); An Essay on Free Trade (1779), and Dissertation on the Political Union 1783. T are many names in the ledger that I am sure would look up. Loosely laid in are several scraps of paper with notes on them, a brief letter to Abbot from David Avery of Mansfield, July 26, 1800 regarding taking in Mr. Abbott's hay. A fascinating peek into everyday Colonial American life. THE BUYER WILL PAY $5.00 FOR SHIPPING. PLEASE CHECK OUT MY OTHER AUCTIONS FOR MORE EARLY LEDGERS.
