Description : Mid 18th C. English King George II period(1727-1759) large solid silver kettle on stand with oil reservoir by the well renowned silversmith Thomas Whipham , London 1747 . The bulbous-shaped, extensively raised and embossed with rococo style, scrolled foliate and flower head, body has an attached cast solid bird high pouring spout and a solid shaped swinging handle with leaves and hog terminals and cane work cover. The extensively embossed part domed hinged cover with a large acorn finial. The openwork rococo stand with scroll legs, masks at the knees and garlands between, with central burner . Marked with same marks on the bottom of the kettle as well as on the bottom of the burner. Such a similar kettle from Thomas Whipham was auctioned at Christie`s in January 2010 and fetched the sum of $10,000.
