Restrained and elegant styling for this mid-century pendant from Kupittaan Kulta of Finland. The body is shaped from three flat silver bars, joined at each end and swelling out at the centre to form a cage for the freely-moving ball. This is a beautiful tiger's-eye stone, displaying typical chatoyancy. The play of colour is superb, from darkest brown to honey-gold, with one particularly striking pale streak. The pendant measures 1 3/4 inches end to end and about 1/2 inch at the centre. The stone is approximately 3/8 inch diameter. It is in excellent vintage condition, with age-related scratches on the silver but no damage to the stone. With great economy of style, t is no loop or bale - to wear it you pass a chain or cord through the cage. One bar is faintly stamped with the maker's anvil mark, 925S and NB - initials often seen on Kupittaan pieces. T is no date stamp, but the styling suggests it is from the 1950s-1960s.
