A very good Miles Mason cup and saucer, C.1805, decorated with good bat prints of classical figures representing the liberal arts The cup has three prints, the saucer has four and they are all clear although some of my pictures are a little out of focus. These are within octagonal panels within a strong red ground which is decorated with very elaborate gilding. This makes a very attractive combination. It is the same basic pattern as number 176 which is illustrated in the Skinner/Young book on Miles Mason Porcelain, although with different colours. It is likely to be a pattern number around this range. Both pieces are in very good condition, with some wear to the gilding in places. There are no chips, cracks, crazing or repairs, and both pieces ring when tapped. There are a couple of glaze inclusions from manufacture, and three stilt marks to the footrim of the cup from manufacture, one of which has a tiny chip associated. Neither piece is marked. The cup is 3 1/4 inches diameter, the saucer is 5 1/2 inches diameter.
