On auction is a working British WWII WS68P Para troop radio The WS68P has a frequency range of 1.75MHz to 2.9MHz and can be used with variable frequency or crystal control. It was developed for use by Airborne Divisions and Para Brigades, in that role it was used in Arnhem during operation Market Garden in 1944. The WS68 is a low frequency version of the much more common WS18. For some kind of mysterious reason it seems that the few WS68P's that surface all seems to come from Holland . I read somew that the BBC was looking for them to use in a documentary but could not find a single one in the UK so is the opportunity. In the past I have made an electronic battery replacement for it that is housed in the original battery shell. I have tested the set and it is in working condition on both transmit and receive. This is an achievement because t has never been any component replaced in this set as far as I can see. The set is missing the canvas hood and the carrying belt with shoulder straps. The second battery cable in the case is not present either so you have to plug the transmitter directly into the battery unit. The only reason why the second cable was used was to have an option to power the set from outside the case in a static setup. This was in real life hardly ever used. Now what is present? Good clean case without major dents, in the case the two battery straps are present. The case and the receiver have the same serial No #1816 the transmitter has serial No #1843. Transmitter and receiver are in clean good shape, with bottom plates and operational although the switches and plugs can use some contact cleaner. I have tested the transmitter and connected the output to a scope, it provides good output and the microphone gives modulation on the RF signal. T are 18 aerial B rods, aerials 25F No1 on a former, key and plug assembly No8, microphone No4, DLR5 headset, all in the satchel signals. Also a copy of the Working Instructions No. 2 is included. With the set comes a home brew electronic battery replacement unit that provides the 3, 12 and 162 volt to the set. Please note: although I have tested the set and it was working I do not give any guaranty on its function because of its age. Please ask if you have any questions. Nico, PA3ESA Netherlands Please note: I have managed to find the correct connectors to make the missing external battery cable so all cabling is now complete.
