Hi,the following set of medals were passed down to me when i was 14 yrs old they are genuine to the best of my knowledge, i am 58 yrs old now so i have had them for 44 yrs. the following information is what i was told by grandparents, the collection of 4 medals including military medal, meritorious service medal, were awarded too serjeant E proctor (edwin) all 4 medals have his name rank etc on the edge of the medals, the details are- SJT E PROCTOR 480070 R.E. (royal engineers) he was a Sheffield man. before the war he was in the terriers ( i am not up on this. territorials ?) he was a sheffield tram driver. i understand he returned to this at the end of the war. he didnt last long though as he was gassed in the war, and died a few years after the wars end." the M.M. i was told he held a bridge under enemy fire. while his men got to safety" the meritorious service medal. i dont know, only that so many were awarded,every year. and in 1916 they were awared for bravery etc "although not under enemy fire" a few notes i have collected include " RE Terriers SJT Date of gazette 60 reg paper 0137/ meritorious service (france) i trust that means he was awarded it in france. other details i have found are in the pics with medals- other details i have come across are ( although i have not followed up) the national archives ( tna) online document read more
