MILLBILLILLIE MILLBILLILLIE Fell Australia, October 1960 Achondrite Polymicte eucrite Crusted endcut 10,90g The Millbillillie fall, occurring Oct 1960, was witnessed by two station workers who were opening a fence gate on the Millbillillie-Jundee track in Western Australia. However, no specimens were recovered until 1970. The meteorite is typically comprised of small whole stones covered with an incredible glossy black fusion crust. They fell in a area of red clay and almost all of them have a caracteristic surface stained red by the clay. Millbillillie is classified as an achondrite, eucrite. Eucrites are basalts that cool as lava flows on the crust or surface of the parent body. Millbillillie is a polymict breccia, the matrix is a mixture of granulitic fragmental breccia (the one represented in this specimen) and impact melts. It has been classified as a recrystalized polymict breccia containing lithologies of differing Mg/Mg+Fe ratio (and so from diffrent sources). Consultez mes autres objets !
