This is a late 1940's -1950's smoothing plane made by Millers Falls, No. 709. This plane was designed by Robert Huxtable, a draftsman for the Millers Falls Company. it measures 10 1/2" long and is 2 1/2" wide. The handle and knob is made from Tennesee Eastman tenite #2 and were guaranteed unbreakable. These planes were three to four times longer than a standard plane and the heavier weight made it easier to handle the irregular grain of wood. They were designed for general carpentry rather than fine woodworking. This plane has some surface rust, the blade is rusted. The handle and knob have some scratches from use, no breakage. Item is sold in as condition, sale is final. Thanks for looking.
