EARLY MILLERS FALLS NO. 1 RATCHET SCREWDRIVER WITH 3 BLADES - SORRY, NO BOX Description: Unsigned Millers Falls Ratchet Screwdriver No. 1. These ratchet screwdrivers from Millers Falls are never signed and have no markings at all. Rosewood handle. These were sold as a set in a hinged lid wood box with three blades - 5", 7", 9" (see reproduced graphic) The No. 1 ratchet screwdriver is seen in two basic variation. On some (like this one) the ratchet housing/tube is the same diameter for its entire length. On others it has a larger diameter at the outer end of the housing/tube. The 7" blade is original; other two are adaptations.Size: OAL Handle alone = 7" / Blade lengths: 4", 7", 7.75" Vintage: This model appears in many tool catalogs in the late 1880s to early 1900sThe earliest listing of which I am aware is the MF catalog of 1887 Patent info: This is one of the earliest available ratchet screwdrivers. The earliest patent for a ratchet screwdriver is from 1854, however it appears that t must not have been any available the mid-1880s. Gay & Ellrich may have preceeded MF by a few years. To the best of my knowledge t is no patent for this tool. Markings: No markings at all. Condition: Good+; ratchet mechanism operating fine; clean, no rust, nickel plate is gone except in hollow groove by toggle and outer chuck section. No splits,
