A GREAT PIECE OF AMERICAN PAINTED FOLK ART. A GREAT AND RARE PAINT DECORATED 19TH CENTURY MINIATURE MIRROR IN PINE WITH THE BEST ORIGINAL "RISING SUN" PAINTED DECORATION IN MUSTARD, BLACK AND RED, STILL RETAINING AN OLD, POSSIBLY ORIGINAL MIRROR GLASS. Only 6" tall and 6" wide. From the middle of the 19th century(fresh from an early Connecticut Home), in NATIVE PINE. The paint is the BEST OXIDIZED BLACK DECORATION OF " RISING SUNS" AROUND THE ENTIRE BORDER ALL IN BLACK OVER MUSTARD. Untouched and oxidized in color from time, with a contrasting rose red on the inner molding. Great iron bleeding from the nails through the paint. This great mirror has a cove molded frame with mitred corners. The condition is fantastic. The PAINT IS UNDISTURBED. THE WOOD IS COMPLETELY INTACT WITH ONLY THE SLIGHTEST OF EDGE WEAR, consistent with its age and use. THE OLD, POSSIBLY ORIGINAL SILVERED MIRROR PLATE IS STILL INTACT. The back is a wonderful piece of early 19th century cardstock that appears to have been added in the Victorian times. The top hanger as shown in the photos is also original.
