This lovely miniature painting (measuring 4" by 3") was recently purchased at estate sale, and is believed to date from the early to mid 19th century, but may be 18th century. Signed "Schuler" on the lower left beside the woman's right shoulder. It is likely an American work of art, and appears to have been painted on ivory, but may have been done on metal or vellum. This piece has the appearance of a studio work, and thus was likely done by a professional portraitist. Painting is contained within its original, glass covered, oval-shaped bronze frame with twisted rope border. Painting is in excellent condition. Rear shows the frame was opened and resealed at some point in recent years. Depicts a pretty young woman dressed in a simple yet elegant dark colored dress with the appearance of velvet. She's wearing shining gold, teardrop earrings and a doubled, black choker necklace with shimmering, heart-shaped pendant that has the appearance of a large diamond or cut glass.
