All of my stone comes from the quarries in Pipestone Minnesota. I hand pick each and every piece, it is treated with due respect, from start to finish! I DID wet it down this time; I have people asking for darker red, this is what it will look like polished with beeswax when finished. It suffices to say it is the highest grade for carving that is attainable. I carve a lot of pipestone; this is the best there is, bar none. This is the best of the best. Good color, and extremely dense and solid and at the same time 'soft' for carving. Dimensions are about 4 and 5/8ths inches the longest point to point , shortest is (length still) point to point is 4 and 1/2-ish inches. Width is about 4 inches on the widest end and 3 and 3/4 inches wide on the narrower end. It weighs 2 pounds 15 oz. It is about 1 and 3/4 inches at it's very thickest point and dips down to about 1 and 3/8ths inches on one side. The average thickness of the piece would be ab out 1 and 5/8ths inches thick. THIS IS ALSO A NICE PIECE FOR A BEGINNER! NOTHING TO WORK AROUND....NICE AND CLEAR/SMOOTH WITH FAIRLY CONSISTENT DIMENSIONS! This is a perfect piece for traditional pipes like elbow and T-bowl types. This is a nice, smaller, but hefty, piece for a decent sized single pipe or a couple of medium sized ones....always depends on how creative you are with your lay-out design. read more
