MINT CONDITION Ming Dynasty Period Blue & White Censer. Dimensions: 17" in height, 12" in width at widest point (inclusive of handles). The censer came directly from rural area of China (not U.S. or mass import company); areas (insluding tomb areas) in China prominently exist w collection recovery efforts still persist. Noted is slight natural sloping to the back, not a defect, but only gives credence and support of not mass-produced, as most mass-produced/reproductions tend to be perfectly symmetrical from a mold or formed template; natural sloping not dectable displayed frontally and, upon collector's preference, may be remedied simply by adding small, concealed piece of clay under rear leg of tripod (three-leg) base). The censer has inscription in Chinese (seen in photos), nontranslated at time of this listing, no marks on bottom. This is a beautiful 2-piece censer characteristic of the Ming Dynasty, enhanced by prominent scrollwork of emergent dragons and foo dog finial, lid base is hexagonal-in shape. Lid is adorned with reticulated motif east-west. Aesthetically attractive display collection attributes. As with any Chinese artifacts, without thermoluminescence (TL) test or authentic provenance/history, it is difficult to determine genuine authenticity of any piece. Such facts are well-known and acknowledged in the antique-collecting industry. Not TL tested, sold to this Seller as an antique Ming Dynasty censer. Without TL testing, any pottery difficult to ascertain as genuine artifact without expert assesment or testing. Most pieces are never TL tested due to expense in testing ($500 plus), the most prominent locale in Oxford, England). NOTE: The original patina (earth particles/remnants) has been left intact for preservation purposes, no alteration or cleaning has been performed, all surface and interior intact (no visible chips, cracks, or loss), in exquisite, mint condition. Note: Keeping to the theory that patina of artifacts/antiques should be left intact, the censer has not been altered/cleaned.
