Reference 7 You are bidding on an antique Cooper's hand adze, marked L. & I.J White, Buffalo, New York, 1837. White's specialty was well known as producing high quality tools for the cooper, and this adze is no exception. It seems to form to your hand, perfectly balanced - you can almost, still feel the history of the old cooper's hand. It measures 8-1/2" overall, the head is around 11" long, the face is 1-1/2" x 1-3/4", and the edge of the blade measures 3-1/4" wide. Weighs a hefty 69.1 ounces. This skillfully crafted hardwood handle is 5-1/2" long. T is a bolt that goes through the head and down the handle and screws onto a nut on the end of the handle. This is still sharp and ready to use. It's in mint condition and still has most of its original factory finish. An extremely nice example of a quality Cooper's tool that's clearly marked and makes a stand-out addition to anyone's tool collection!
