This is an original H.G. Long Fairbairn dagger in factory mint condition, in its original presentation case! This knife commemorates The Battle Of The Coral Sea and The Battle Of Midway Island. One side of the high-polished, brightly-blued blade bears scrolls deep-etched on the gold-plated blade: "In honor of the Battles Of The Coral Sea/ 4 May 1942--8 May 1942 And Midway Island/ 3 June--6 June 1942", and: "CV2" and: "CV5". The other side bears a deep-etched Naval battle scene with a gold aircraft carrier and gold planes and a bright-blued sky. The H.G. Long logo is inlaid in gold on the ricasso. The knife's serial number: "2065" is engraved on the guard. This knife is in immaculate condition, and is in its original satin-lined, velvet-covered presentation case, with its original certificate of authenticity. The guard is plated in pure gold ; the handle is bright hardwood with a twisted bronze wire wrap. As you know, H.G. Long was one of the original manufacturers of the Fairbairn-Sykes dagger during World War II. The knife measures 11-3/4" overall; the blade is 6-15/16" long. This knife was produced by H.G. Long in Sheffield, England for The American Historical Foundation; of course, H.G. Long went out of business some years ago; this knife was one of a limited edition of 2500 knives, wordwide.
