Rare Minton antique plate is hand decorated with lotus flowers and butterfly. The surface is undulated to simulate water and designed by Christopher Dresser, one of the leading artists of the Aesthetic movement who worked designing for Minton in the 1860s and 70s. The Japanese influence is clear on this beautiful 8.25" porcelain plate done in the easily recognized Minton blue ground. The colorful raised decorations are exquisitely detailed lotus flowers (or waterlilies) and leaf pads floating on the undulating surface of the plate that perfectly emulates water. A butterfly flies nearby, and the stylized wavy edge of the plate is gilt all around- truly a magnificent example of Dresser's early Aesthetic functional art designs. The matching blue center bottom is marked with the bare globe with Mintons and crown above, dating this plate to the 1870's. The number 18878 and four dots are hand painted inside the foot rim.Condition is Excellent-near mint museum quality. I find no damages- NO CHIPS, CRACKS, or DAMAGE OF ANY KIND. Very clean unused, with NO CRAZING found under a magnifying glass. The artwork is top notch and detailed right down to the butterfly's antennae. The gilt on the edge is intact. Check the pictures. It's a great piece and there are no hidden flaws.Rare Minton Aesthetic plate, designed by Christopher Dresser and hand read more
