MISSION OAK CHURCH CHAIRS WITH BACK PRAYER BOOK BOXES BY HEYWOOD-WAKEFIELD Allston Antiques is delighted to offer you this super set of six Mission Oak Church Chairs with very unusual back mounted prayer book boxes. We have never seen these before and we see a lot of Mission Oak (several more very good listings coming as soon as we can process them). These chairs are made from the highest quality quarter sawn (tiger) oak and are in a very good original finish. Each chair has FIVE base stretchers-another very unusual feature. Each chair has two labels (some of these labels are only partially there but there is no mistaking the name here). One label is by Cowell's Furniture Co. 599 Westminster St. and the other on each chair is by the famed Heywood Wakefield Co. We suspect these were made by Cowell for Heywood Wakefield in Gardner, Massachusetts ("Chair City"). These came right out of a Rhode Island Church. The back mounted prayer book rack are just a charming feature. These are a tough solidly made institutional chair. The back boxes can hold linens, newspapers, magazines, the kids' books or what have you. Great for either home or office. The back boxes do not stick out too far so they won't get in your way if you want to use them in a dining room to acheive to totally unique look. We bought three more of these chairs that lost their back boxes over the years. We figure we will offer them with the several mission oak desks we have coming soon to our listings. Each chair is 36" tall at their backs, has a 16 1/2" wide seat that is 18 1/4" deep and each seat height is 18" high. We don't suspect these will last that long so if you need these other three chairs (just understand that they don't have the boxes) let us know fast. Also, thge boxes come right off with two screws so this is an option you can easily remove and if you do don't get rid of the boxes-they will have a great baring on their value down the road. A great set of chairs at a very reasonable price! WELCOME TO ALLSTON ANTIQUES PLEASE READ Founded in 1979 in the Harvard Avenue Allston section of Boston by Judith Sacarob Youngworth and William P.
