Mission Qsawn Oak Cabinet Wm Morris Textile Panels 1890 Our latest container recently arrived from the UK, and this item is from it. This is a SUPERB antique cabinet, and a VERY UNUSUAL one, An Original and Genuine Antique English Victorian Mission Locking Jewelry Cabinet, in Quartersawn Oak, w/ Wm Morris Pattern Fabric Inserts to Door, w/ Full-Width Drawer & 4 Fitted Drawers, Dating to c.1890..! This is a magnificent and eminently useful piece, see 6 pics above and fully 20 below. It features a molded-edge overhanging top over the hinged door, that door with central ovoid reeded metal applique flanked by two panels of William Morris print fabric, and it is complete with its original brass escutcheon, working lock and key. Below that door is a full-width fitted drawer, complete with original reeded metal swing-bar handle, that can only be opened when the door is open, and the door opens to reveal four matching smaller drawers arranged two-over-two to the left-hand side of the interior. Three of those drawers are complete with their original swing-bar reeded handles that match that of the full-width drawer and the door applique, whilst the fourth, at the lower bottom-left, has had the handle removed to allow the door to close without fouling the lock. Such is the way of handmade cabinets..! To the right-hand side of the interior is a full-height recess. Its only flaws are that the applique on the bottom-left drawer, already mentioned, is missing its handle and is broken at one end, and t are tiny traces of age-old glue around the outside of the front door panel rebate. The cabinet has soffit sides with arched cutouts forming feet, and it is in extraordinary condition for its great age.
