Mixed Gold Bodhisattva Vajrasattva Thangka Thanka Painting Nepal Himalayan Art Description This is a Nice little Bodhisattva Vajrasattva Thangka Painting from Nepal. I brought it back with me from my last trip there. is beautifully set in the cosmic setting with his consort. A mixed gold paint of 10 to 14K was used in an accent. Some history of the Vajrasattva: Vajrasattva it appears in two Buddhist texts the Mahavairocana Sutra and the Vajrasekhara Sutra sitting to the east near Akshobhya Buddha. He is known as the esoteric aspect of of Samantabhadra who is believed to be the primordial Buddha. In the first chapter of the Mahavairocana Sutra Vajrasattva as well as other beings visit Vairocana Buddha and inquires about the foundation and his all embracing wisdom and philosophical discourse but because this audience could not comprehend the teaching the Buddha and then demonstrates through the use of a Mandala. This leads him to question why rituals and objects are needed. The Buddha replied that these are expedient means for the practitioner to experience awakening more easily. In Tibetan Buddhism the Vajrasattva root tantra is Dorje Gyan or Vajra Ornament and Vajrasattva practices are an essential element him of Tibetan Buddhist practice.
