You are looking at a Vintage MKII Astro Compass from the WWII ERA.... Below is a description, written by Navtrak Nauticals.... "The MKII Astro Compass was manufactured by Sperti, Inc. of Cincinnati, Ohio during the World War II era. It was used by aircraft operating in high latitudes to indicate true heading in areas w the magnetic compass becomes unreliable due to large errors in the variation and the angle dip of the earth's magnetic field. When latitude, local hour angle and declination are set on the compass, and the sighting vanes are aligned with the celestial body, the true heading of the aircraft is indicated on the true course dial. The Astro Compass has a base which may be attached to the aircraft structure." This item originally came with a black bakelite case, which I DO NOT HAVE!! The auction is for the MKII Astro Compass only. A great piece of history, a MUST for any WWII/aircraft collector!
