"Select" Thomsonite ("old stock") from Thomsonite Beach, the first Thomsonite "Beds" (now depleted), on the North Shore Of Lake Superior, Near Grand Marais, MN.

This is literally a "Sackful"! One Pound, Twelve Ounces of Beautiful Minnesota Thomsonites, ranging from 1/4" ("pea" size) to 1-1/2"! Many of these are very high quality gems, some with lots of copper (green) coloration in the rings. I noticed a couple that look very much like Chlorastrolite (Isle Royal Greenstone), with chatoyancy! Two Hundred and Eighty in all !!!

Checking around the WEB, I've recently seen "ordinary" (pink with few colors) nuggets of one gram, selling at $25.00! That pricing would make this bagful worth appx. $20,000.00! Believe me, I'm not looking for $20 grand! While looking for lower prices, I found one store selling "pea" sized Thomsonites for $29/ounce, but you can imagine the size of them; I counted 40 in one picture of their "ounce".

The individual weights of mine run from 1 or 2 grams to 2 ounces. Most of them are perfect "jewelry" size. All of the "heavy" work has been done; carefully "stripping" away the basalt matrix.

I'm including a "BONUS" to whomever wins this auction; a Natural Slab of Thomsonite (see photos #5 & #6), weighing 1-1/2 ounces and measuring 2-1/2" x 2-1/8" x up to 3/8" thick! (At the above quoted prices, this one should retail at well over $1000!) This gorgeous display gem has NO matrix and is polished; all set to put into your display case! It boasts 14 beautiful "Eyes" on the top surface and if you're good at finding "pictures" in stone, this one has a perfect, tiny,red wolf face, looking at you. The left eye of this wolf is chatoyant and appears to "wink" at you when you turn the stone under a light! "One In A Million!!! How's THAT for a BONUS???

This Thomsonite array represents many years of collecting by my entire family. The only reason I'm willing to part with them is that I'm retired and wish for these stones to be placed in the hands of a true Rockhound who will cherish, enjoy and use each piece to give pleasure to others!

This large collection of "Jewelry Sized" Thomsonites, PLUS that "One-Of-A-Kind" BONUS, will be at auction for seven days. Opening bid will be only $25.00, with;

Just the act of chipping these Thomsonite nodules out of their matrix would be a full-time job for several months; just ask anyone who's hunted for Thomsonites! Note: Thomsonite is quite soft (5 mho) but extremely brittle! DO NOT DROP!!! Your beautiful gem could shatter into millions of tiny fragments! GOOD LUCK BIDDING !!!
