Model 1832 Ames Artillery Short Sword, 19" blade, 25" overall length, stamped with an American eagle over N.P. AMES / SPRINGFIELD on one side of the ricasso and UNITED / STATES / 1834 on the other side, cast brass fishscale grip with eagle and shield device on both sides of pommel, underside of integral cross-guard stamped S. HUSE / NEWBURYPORT with inspectors' marks HKC (in cartouche) and J.M. - This sword would be appropriate for either Mexican War or Civil War collections. Excellent markings with a very clear date. - Brass elements have been cleaned long ago, the steel, however, retains a lovely gray patina. The blade is missing its very tip and the edges have a few tiny nicks. Overall very good condition.
