Original US Model 1860 Field & Staff double engraved sword with folding Federal Eagle clamshell. Gilt brass hilt with unusual rosette cap on pommel. Federal Eagle on obverse of pommel. Gilt brass knucklebow has floral relief. Black sharkskin grip with twisted brass wire. Folding clamshell functions perfectly with one side having the Federal Eagle and banners and the opposite having a Shield with crossed cannons, rifles, swords, etc. Brass hilt has some toning and could be cleaned if you prefer. Nickeled scabbard with brass mount fittings. Two upper scabbard fittings with oak leaf design. Double engraved sword is maker marked "B.M. Whitlock, New York". Beautiful blade is nicely engraved with "U.S." on one side and Federal Eagle on opposite, along with banners, floral sprays, etc. 31" Mirrored-bright blade with little spots of greying in a few areas. Nickeled steel scabbard has some lifting & pitting area on the reverse, mostly towards the drag. Overall length is 38 1/2". Listed with no reserve!
