A traditional enthusiast’ssingle cylinder, sliding valve, horizontal steam engine with its own brassboiler. The model is attractively mounted on a varnished wooden base measuring 10” x 8½”. This is a classic example of fundamental modelling and machining practice. The cylinder and valve block are machined from solid brass, the cylinder bore is .75” with a piston stoke of 1.275” driving a 3.5” flywheel. Adjustable seals are fitted to both cylinder connecting rod and the slide valve operating rod. Speed can be controlled by an input air screw and for fine adjustment of slow running by a separate air screw exhausting air direct from the sliding valve. The boiler measures 7” x 2.5” diameter and is made from 1/16” brass plate, a special feature, it has both pre-heat and re-heat ½” copper tubes measuring 6” x ½” diameter mounted underneath, these considerably improve the efficiency of the boiler. Steam exhausts to a traditional brass funnel giving an overall height of 9” and the boiler has both a water level sight glass and a pressure relief valve. Whilst the model works exceptionally well under steam a burner is not included.
