This marvelous piece of wood sculpture has been in my family for a very long time. . It came to me after my aunt's death, who had received this in the late '30's. She was a psychologist in California (in the Bay area) for many years, and this had been given to her as a gift back when she had just come out of college and had begun practicing. I believe that this was a WPA project as she also remembered some of her patients were working in the WPA at that time. She remembered this had been given to her by such a patient, in lieu of payment. In any event, it has stayed with her all these years until now. My mother remember it being in my aunt's home since she was a very young girl (my mother was born in 1933). I sincerely hope the pictures convey the astounding workmanship in this piece. It is 11" high (including the base) and that base is a 9" square, and since I have had it there has been no one who comes to my home that hasn't been enchanted by it. The only flaw I can find is a small chip on the wooden base (look very closely in the pictures). This would be just breathtaking in a modern or deco decor.
