This is a vintage 1988, original doll, by famed doll artist MONIKA MECHLING. Before she was known for her porcelain dolls, she got her start by making cloth dolls for her own children. Soon, friends and relatives inspired her to start selling her creations and this little sweetie is from that era. "Mary" is 10.5" high . Her face is hand painted with rosey cheeks, lips and big blue eyes. Her long blonde hair is braided and tied with pink ribbons. She has soft arms and legs that bend, with a hard padded torso. Her outfit is a Pretty pink floral dress with lace accents. She wears a lace edged under slip and pantaloons She wears ivory knee high socks under her pink shoes which are accented with pink flowers, tiny faux pearls and buttons on the strap! She holds her teddy, wearing a matching ribbon, in her right hand and her straw, ribbon and rose accented, sun hat in her left. Torso is signed "Monica Mechling 1988" (this is before she became known as "Monika") She has a number below the signature & date of "88720G Mary" Originalhangtag is still on her wrist and reads "MONICA MECHLING DOLL ORIGINALS" on the front. Back of tag has handwriting that reads "88720G Mary" Also faintly, handwritten in pencil is the original price of $75.00. There are no stains, tears or odors. Stand is included.
