Nickel Plate Products imported this set from KMT of Japan. The models are custom painted with the powered model features an open frame motor bi-axial type. The model is of the Phase II version of the F-3 units built by General Motors Electro Motor Division that features the long top grill with chicken wire. These locomotives are considered one of the most successful of the early diesels as they proved the versatility and economy of diesel power over steam. Several hundreds of these diesels were built and they found themselves used all over the United States. The model also features see through venting on the long top grills as well as top vents. The A unit is powered with tower drives - normal noise from KMT drives. The set is equipped with draw bar (as are the prototypes ) but couplers can be easily installed if you wish to change them. The model set appears to have been a display piece – model features NWSL axles. This KMT Japanese crafted model set comes with original box and yellow replacement foam (starting to deteriorate).
