Offered here, from November 1964, is issue #1 of MONSTER WORLD , the companion magazine to FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND , edited by FORREST J ACKERMAN and published by JAMES WARREN . This issue contains 68 pages and has a cover price of 35 cents. The cover art features a portrait of Lon Chaney Jr. as THE WOLFMAN. Monster World ran for ten issues. I am currently putting all ten issues up for bids.
Articles in this issue include coverage of Monster Movies to Come ("Lurking Ahead"), "The Maddest Doctor" (Lionel Atwill bio), "The Mummy" (comic strip adaption by Russ Jones and Wallace Wood), THE BLACK SLEEP and regular features including Fang Mail, "It Asked For You," "Terror Talk" (News from the Ghould Gazette) by Bill Obbagy and ads for Captain Co. products (including ads for Aurora model kits).
Photos inside include such horror film personalities as Boris Karloff, Christopher Lee, Lionel Atwill, Bela Lugosi, Basil Rathbone, Lon Chaney Jr., Tor Johnson and John Carradine.
This copy is in Very Good Plus or better condition. The covers have medium general wear including some light dents, some edge and corner wear and a 5" diagonal crease on the upper right section of the back cover. The spine is sturdy and square with some wear at the tips but no splits. The pages are complete and have tanned lightly, and the lower right corners of the pages and covers have soft bends of around 1" from cover to cover. but have no other problems such as tears, marks, stains, etc. present. There are no creases on the pages aside from the corner bends just mentioned.
