This is a very beautiful old French, Art Nouveau vase by Mont Joye/Legras c.1900. The vase has a clear color with frosted acid-etched glass with gold and silver flowers. It measures 11 5/8" tall x 4 3/4" wide on top and 4 5/8" on the bottom. The vase is in very nice condition; no cracks, chips or hairlines. The gold flowers are textured with silver on some of them and just gold on others; almost all of the stems are raised and a couple are just painted gold. I do not see any scratches to the gold on the side of the vase, but the gold on the very top rim is probably 50 % intact. This does not take away from this piece. It is so textured that the rim simply blends with the etching in the glass and the mixture of colors in the gold. The bottom of the vase has many small scratches on the part that is flat that makes contact with surfaces; as seen in one of the pictures. I tried to show the vase in several different lights so that you can get an idea of what it really looks like. The etching and glass are clear, no color tint. This is one of the taller vases that I have seen out t I am selling this for an older gentleman who has quality antiques. Unsigned, which seems to be somewhat common for many of the Legras/Mont Joye pieces. On this piece, someone had a piece of tape on the bottom that was marked #570. I don't know w they got this # or if it has significance. I did a lot of research on Mont Joye/Legras; these pieces are in catalogues with very good names in glass such as Pairpoint, Durand, Steuben, Lalique and Baccarat. A little history ; Mont Joye was a highly desirable division of Legras in France. Most of these vases are from the late 1800's to the early 1900's. While not all pieces were marked, the ones that were were marked either "Legras", "L & Cie", "Sargel" (Legras backwards), "Leg." (enameled) or "Mont Joye & Cie". After WWI, the firm merged with Pantin glass works to form Verreries et Cristalleries de St Denis et Pantin RTunies, but continued to use "Legras" signature on some enamelled or acid-etched vases during 1920s & 30s . The frosted appearance is achieved with a light acid etching process and Saint-Hilaire,Touvier,deVarreaux & Co. in Pantin, France is known for gilt florals on frosted glass. This is a great opportunity to pick up a nice Mont Joye piece; please email with any questions. Personal checks wait 10 days to clear; MO and Paypal ship immediately.
