Up for auction is this fun, vintage Monterey Furniture bookcase, circa 1938, all original and in very good condition with plentiful hand painted details and iron hardware, signed and branded with the Monterey name and horseshoe. Rich Desert Dust finish (an antiqued, light tan color). Interest in Monterey Furniture has skyrocketed since it was featured in an exhibit at the California Heritage Museum accompanied by the publication in 2000 of the book Monterey: Furnishings of California's Spanish Revival by Roger Renick & Michael Trotter. The Monterey line is highly coveted by collectors today. ABOUT MONTEREY FURNITURE: Monterey furniture was produced in Los Angeles , California for only 14 years, from 1929 to 1943, by Mason Manufacturing Company. T was a renewed interest in Spanish revival architecture and furniture following the Panama-California International Exposition held in California in 1915. The California Spanish Revival movement reached its peak in the 1920's and early 1930's. Its initial influences are strongly rooted in 16th & 17th Spanish and the early California mission era furniture design. The Monterey Furniture line was instantly popular and fashionable estates filled their homes with the unique forms that were sold through Barker Brothers Furniture stores.
