MONUMENTAL ANTIQUE JAPANESE TEMPLE LANTERN Rare & Impressive size, measuring 39" high Magnificent, large antique temple lantern. Beautifully hand crafted with great intricacy and attention to detail. Gorgeous cast floral halo surmounts the circular base pan which is etched with subtle flower petals. The second piece consists of the vertical support with harmonious floral peony design matching the halo, above which the elegant roof-like segment is capped with a traditional Japanese finial and heavy brass ring for hanging. Originally used in a Japanese temple for candles and incense, this piece would be wonderful either indoors or in the garden (as we have displayed in the photos). Could be used for candles, to hold fruit, or would make an exquisite bird feeder. Anywhere this piece might be displayed, it will be sure to draw attention. Absolutely stunning as it offers a magnificent, exotic presence from all the way across the room. There is a detailed inscription on the underside of the base pan which we have not yet translated (see photo). This outstanding votive lantern was recently purchased in Japan, and examples of this size are rarely found outside of that country.
