For your pleasure, a stunning and monumental 3 liter handpainted MERKELBACH & WICK LIDDED STEIN WITH STEEPLCHASE SCENE . This is likely an occupational stein for a jockey, and the handpainted scene is done very well. I have searched for the artist's signature, and it may be hidden on there somewhere, but I have been unable to find it. The stein itself measures 11" tall with a base diameter of 5 3/4", and an overall height of just over 13 1/2" to the top of the pewter lid. The base has the Merkelbach and Wick mark dating it between 1879-1921. It is most likely a late 1800's piece. There is some writing on the bottom that indicates an earlier date, but I don't think that is accurate. This piece has been handed down through generations of one family, but is ready to go in someone else's exclusive collection. Don't miss out. This type of stein doesn't come around often.Check out my other listings this week.
