May, published by Foulis, FIRST EDITION 1948 , hard cover with dust wrapper, 192 pages , illustrated in b&w, 8 3/4" x 5 3/4", 340g unpacked. "It is the personal account of one of the best known and successful car trials drivers in the immediate post war years. The 'blood and thunder' days when trialing was dominated by the FORD V8 SPECIALS and the might of the ALLARDS. We share with him every moment of the success and failure, the elation of cresting a difficult hill that all others have failed, and the overall impression that this branch of motor sport is such fun, totally amateur, as indeed it remains today. It is a fact that total strangers to the sport have been so inspired by reading this book that they have actually gone out, bought a suitable car, and joined in the game. As a competitor myself for some 25 years, I can only prompt others to try this book, in the hope that it has the same effect on them.
