Some time back I got on an Arts & Crafts kick, buying up anything and everything I thought would look great in the “all A&C” room filled with fine oak furniture of the period. That’s when I found out I couldn’t afford it. So I am – selling the things I had put away for when that day would come. This weaving is from sometime around 1940-1950 I think, but the mellow red ground and the geometric patterns would still look fantastic with a pair Stickley chairs. It measures 74” by 48” and is about the same weight and thickness as good hand woven rugs from the American Southwest. If some of my images appear “orangish or fire engine red,” ignore them. It is a mellow red with subtle dye changes – Plus – many design elements are both woven in and embroidered. Those measurements I gave you do NOT include the 6” fringe on one end. It would make a terrific wall-hanger. One thing that struck me about the piece as I was doing a little homework is that several of the embroidered designs can be traced to traditional Berber designs.
