MottahedeH white porcelain reticulated centerpiece bowl hand painted with applied porcelain flowers in Italy This stunning centerpiece bowl from Mottaheden Design in Italy is fluted white porcelain, with two rows of reticulated panels decorated with hand painted leaves and flowers. The flowers are applied porcelain, in 3 dimensions, in several colors and with the same design features on each side. It is an intricate piece of porcelain done with delicacy and grace. Mottaheden, a successful luxury American company, in business for 75 years, has beautiful porcelain pieces made by artists in many countries. It produces a design for a while, then retires it, making their fine pieces quite valuable. I cannot find another collectible bowl like this anywhere on the internet. This exquisite came from a Palm Beach estate, and most likely from a Palm Beach boutique carrying original and limited items from the 1960s or 1970s. The unusual and appealing oval bowl measures 13 inches in length, including the handles on each end. The opening, without the handles, measures 11 1/8 inches. It is 9 inches wide. Gold trims the scalloped rim and then flows into a feathered gold pattern inside the rim. The base is 6.25 inches long and a little over 6 inches wide. It weighs 2.25 pounds. The entire bowl has a row of reticulated porcelain around the lower portion, made up of 1 x 1 ¼ inch panels. Green leaves are hand painted on the outside and look like a vine encircling the bowl. A repeat of one reticulated panel centers each side and the ends near the top opening. Attached at each corner to the handles are two flower groupings that repeat at the opposite end. Pink flower buds with long green leaves are connected by a leafy vine to second group with a bouquet of pink, peach, and yellow applied porcelain hand painted flowers. Both sets of flowers have as a base a white porcelain leaf edged on gold that blends into the top scalloped edging. A reticulated pattern of green leaves centers each long side and also the ends of the bowl. The reticulated panels show as white porcelain cut-outs inside, but on the outside they are hand painted with delicate green leaves. The bottom makers mark says in dark blue, under the glaze: "A Mottaheden Design, Italy." This estate piece from Palm Beach has obviously been used only for display. It is in MINT condition with no flaws. It will be double-boxed or heavily padded for shipping. The most fragile parts are the applied porcelain designs that could chip if not properly handled.
